Real jeans!

Backstory:

So like many moms I wasn’t at my “ideal weight” when I got pregnant. I had gotten down below my first pre-pregnancy weight when Jovie was a little over a year. I finally got serious about losing the rest of the baby weight from that pregnancy when I had a back injury and physical therapy & losing any extra weight were necessary.
Then work switched to a new computer system and many of us ate through our stress and I put on 10 pounds or so, and then we were pregnant again. So I had to give up weight watchers for the next 9 months (they don’t want you intentionally losing weight while pregnant). But I knew I’d get back to it.

Today:

Today my Sweet Pea is one week old. 🙂 I’ve lost 20lbs of baby weight and I’m wearing REAL jeans! With a waistband and everything!! Ok, so I have to leave the top button undone, and I’m wearing a bella band– but the hips & thighs fit! Wah hoo!!

So I consider this a starting point. I’ve signed up for weight watchers again, so hopefully between that & breast feeding and running around after Jovie- more will continue to melt away!

My goal is to be more toned & fit all over. I want to keep up with my girls!!

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” (1 Corinthians 9:24 NIV)

The L&D adventures continue… and a glimmer of hope?

Isaiah 66:9

I love this verse…

Saturday Night/Sunday Morning

Went to L&D again Sunday morning. Contractions had increased steadily since 9pm Saturday til they were 2-3 minutes apart and had gotten too bad to talk through. We checked in about 1am on Sunday. They saw I was having real contractions, but were still hesitant to check & see if I’d dilated. So they wanted to keep me longer. They did lab work & a urine sample again to check for infection- all negative (good, since I’m still on antibiotics!). At 4am the nurse tells us to try turning off the lights & sleep if we can. At 5 I had slept a little, contractions had spaced out and I was told I wasn’t in labor anymore. I was really upset. Got dressed & cried. Then we came home. Didn’t call or text my family, or write anything earlier to let others know we had gone because I wanted to wait to be admitted– Still no. I was really bummed about all of this.

The whole experience leaves me so frustrated. It was a very painful process– felt like back labor & it was hard to move or walk with numbness in my left leg and shooting pains in my lower back before each contraction. I just wanted to have my baby and every time we thought it could be for real, then we get sent home. Sunday my heart and my body both hurt- I just felt so drained.

The day did get better, and by the end of it I felt more positive about everything.

Today- Monday

So I got REALLY hot and felt gross all over again today… Vomit  Same as my UTI symptoms, feeling feverish (even though I didn’t have a fever over 100 degrees), headache, nausea, neck pain, back pain– just gross all over. Which is extra weird cuz I’m still on antibiotics…

Called my OB– HE’S FINALLY BACK FROM VACATION!! Grin — And they told me to come in this afternoon. He thinks my symptoms could be my body gearing up for labor- given what happened on Saturday night/Sunday morning, or it could be hormone related. Basically just keep watching all of it. He told me I could be up and around more, and that if I did develop a fever that he wanted me to go straight to L&D, hand them his card, and that he would come right down. He said I can take a cool bath with water and no bubbles if I need to, but no pools.

He also said that once I am past 37 weeks (on Weds) that we could discuss where to go next (glimmer!!). In this pregnancy I have now made 5 trips to L&D (First- 20 weeks– car accident, Second- 29w 3d– pPROM, Third- UTI, Fourth- UTI, Fifth- Contractions… seriously- that is too many times to come home without a baby)!! I am just done going to L&D- only to be sent home again, and having more infections that put both me and my sweet pea at risk. So I am praying that when I see him on Thursday that he will give me a date to induce- if she doesn’t get here before then! Also, I am praying my hubby will be there for delivery– tomorrow he is working very late & will be far away and tough to reach!

So for now, we will just see if all this feeling gross turns into anything– or if we finally get a date to meet this little lady. Only 2 more days and I am FULL TERM!! Grin

What do I recommend to a first time mom?

Things I learned after my first pregnancy/delivery/home coming experience…

First time moms often have so many questions for those who have “been there and done that” with the labor, delivery, and home coming process. One started an advice thread, and there were so many great bits. Here are some of my personal tips and some of my favorites mentioned.

It started with this thread on babycenter.com:   http://community.babycenter.com/post/a34434985/btdt_advice_thread

My advice (Yes we are getting REAL here people):

Read this entire post so that you can not only laugh, but have some great tips: dearbabyblog.com/post/4718750068/a-…

Vaginal Deliveries: Use the squirt bottle they give you from the hospital to clean your oh-so-tender lady parts… warm water feels best. Also use the witch hazel and dermoplast.– and take your Doc seriously about the waiting to have sex thing. It takes a while to get your groove back.

Trust your instincts. If you feel something isn’t right with you or your baby, call a doctor. If it turns out to be nothing or its normal- at least they gave you peace of mind that it is nothing to worry about.

TAKE STOOL SOFTENERS!! So you don’t have to push anything else out! A baby should be enough!   Also take the anti-inflammatory meds they give you. It’s just a higher dose of Motrin usually, but it really seemed to help.

Drink plenty of fluids. You’ll hear that a lot. It’s really true. 🙂

Have LOTS of breast pads handy for the first 2-3 days after you come home and your milk comes in!! Yowzah!!

Make a basket of granola bars/snacks, breast pads, extra burp rags, etc so that when you sit down to breastfeed you have all your things handy.

– And have a big bottle/glass/mug/cup of water, and your boppy or other pillow there too!

Nursing tank tops: You can make them! And for WAY less $!   Go to this site: thejensonjaunts.blogspot.com/2011/0…

Nursing: Use a safety pin or small hair clip to pin on the strap of your nursing bra. Pin it to the side you leave of with, so you can start on that side next time you breastfeed.

Know that your body will eventually look nice again. During that very hormonal week after birth I stood in the shower, looking at my body complete with GIANT breasts, stretch marks, and belly flab and just cried. Nothing felt or looked my own any more. My husband just did a lot of hugging during that time.

– Remember to give your spouse hugs too! It is important you two stay connected and united, and at times it is an effort.

TAKE PICTURES! Take sweet pics of your baby with every one you love. Especially parents/grandparents. I lost my grandfather when our daughter was less than a year. I still treasure the picture I have of him holding her as a baby.

Above all- Enjoy your precious baby. They grow so fast before your eyes. Stare at them, marvel at them. Soak up every moment.
